Aikan Whisky matures for three years in French oak casks in the temperate climate of Scotland. A second maturation period of one year in ex-rum casks in the tropical climate of Martinique follows, giving the whisky a unique concentration of wonderful aromas. The nose is rich and flavorful. Vanilla, malt, and fruit notes reveal themselves, developing a cake-like aroma after a few minutes. Notes of crème brûlée, candied orange, apricot tart, banana, and roasted almonds, combined with fresh notes of sugarcane, can also be detected. Exotic notes of papaya, plum, and cooked apple also emerge. All of this is enhanced by slightly woody and spicy notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. On the palate, delicious notes of candy cane, pecan, candied chestnut, dark chocolate, black pepper, and a typical Scottish smokiness with a wonderfully fresh herbal note surprise and delight the connoisseur. The finish of Aikan Whisky Blend Collection Batch No. 3 is long and flavorful, slightly woody with lovely notes of ginger, caramel, vanilla and coconut.
