Chateau Arton

Château Arton, once a dilapidated 19th-century Carthusian monastery, was discovered in 1978 by Patrick de Montal and Victoire de Montesquiou. They had returned from Paris to plant a vineyard in Haut Armagnac and revitalise the appellation. Gascony, with its rolling hills and abundant water sources, offers ideal conditions for viticulture. The first vines were planted in 1981, and the estate has grown steadily ever since. Today, Domaine Arton covers 88 hectares and features eight grape varieties that give its wines and Armagnacs their unique character.

Particularly noteworthy is the creation of the first Blanche Armagnac in 1986, as well as the ‘Prix d’Excellence’ at the 2017 Concours Général Agricole de Paris. The partnership between Patrick de Montal and Fabrice Saramone, which began in 2002, has shaped Arton’s wines. In 2021, Jean and Lili Chieng de Montal took over the estate and introduced new environmental initiatives.

Armagnac, France’s oldest brandy, has been produced since 1310. Château Arton produces it in the traditional ‘Armagnacais’ distillery, where it matures in oak casks and develops its unique character. The estate focuses on quality and tradition to keep the flavours of Armagnac alive.
