Quinta do Infantado
Quinta do Infantado is a renowned winery in Portugal’s Douro Valley with a long and impressive history. Founded in 1816 for the Infante D. Pedro, who later became King D. Pedro IV of Portugal and D. Pedro I of Brazil, the estate took its name from the fact that ‘Infante’ means ‘Prince’ in Portuguese.
Since 1904, the Quinta has been owned by the Roseira family, who have nurtured their passion for viticulture across generations. The estate is situated some 4 km from Pinhão in the unique terroir of the Vale de Gontelho, a micro-region long renowned for the high quality of its wines.
In the early 1970s, the owners at the time decided to stop selling their wines to large exporters and to bottle them themselves instead. In 1979, Quinta do Infantado was one of the first estates to produce estate-bottled Ports – that is, Port wines produced and bottled entirely on the estate itself.
Today, the Roseira family cultivates around 46 hectares of vineyards, combining traditional methods with modern techniques to produce wines of the highest quality. The estate’s Port wines and DOC Douro wines reflect the authenticity and terroir of the region and have made a name for themselves both nationally and internationally.
Through its commitment to quality and innovation, Quinta do Infantado remains a shining example of the excellence of Portuguese winemaking and the rich tradition of the Douro Valley.
