Coruba
Coruba is a rum brand steeped in tradition with over 120 years of history. It all began in 1889, when a Basel merchant developed a taste for rum during his travels to Jamaica. Impressed by the quality of Jamaican rum, he founded the ‘Compagnie Rhumière de Bâle’ in Basel to bring this special rum to Europe. The name ‘Coruba’ is derived from the company’s initials and quickly became synonymous with high-quality rum.
In 1929, the Rum Company Kingston was founded under the leadership of Rudolf Waeckerlin-Fiechter to ensure the quality of Jamaican rums directly on site. In the 1960s, due to political instability in Jamaica, the well-known Jamaican rum producer Wray & Nephew (known for the Appleton brand) took over the Coruba Rum Company. However, the production and blending of the rums remain in Basel to this day, where bottling for the European market also takes place.
Coruba offers a diverse range, including the well-known ‘Non-Plus-Ultra’ rum and the Prestige series featuring aged rums of 12, 18 and 25 years. These are gaining increasing international recognition. Also particularly noteworthy is the overproof variant at 74% ABV, which is used in many cocktails. Since 2020, the brand has expanded its portfolio with limited-edition single-cask vintage releases, which are finished in sherry casks and underline Coruba’s ambition to establish itself in the ultra-premium segment.
