Chantal Comte Rhum

Chantal Comte's third cuvée, also a Cuvée Caribaea, is a four-year-old rum aged in new barrels on Martinique, deliberately breaking with the classic tradition of maturation in American bourbon barrels. This bottling represents originality and the harmonious blend of an exceptionally diverse range of aromas. As with the Caribaea Rhum Vieux, a colorful illustration by Cyril Girard adorns the bottle label, depicting a hummingbird feeding on a hibiscus blossom. The crystal-clear rum is made from freshly pressed, locally sourced sugarcane juice and presents itself with particular expressiveness. On the nose, exotic floral aromas unfold first, followed by delicate maritime notes of iodine and salt, overall fresh and fruity. On the palate, the rum is smooth and seductive, remarkably well-balanced despite its intense character. Exotic fruit notes and hints of eucalyptus characterize the flavor profile and lead to a complex, long-lasting finish with depth and elegance.

Cuvée Caribaea is an exceptional rum from Maison La Mauny, selected and bottled by Chantal Comte in Martinique. The colorful butterflies on the bottle label, designed by Cyril Girard, a naturalist painter with a scientific background, symbolize the freshness and elegance of this special bottling. This cuvée matured for four years in American bourbon oak barrels before being bottled in May 2021 as Rhum Vieux in a strictly limited edition of 1,600 numbered bottles, presented in an elegant, engraved wooden case. Cuvée Caribaea displays a bright, luminous amber color with a beautiful viscosity. On the nose, it is elegant and balanced with soft spice notes and hints of bourbon vanilla, tobacco leaves, and brioche. On the palate, a clear finesse unfolds with aromas of cocoa, honey, coffee, and roasted hazelnut, accompanied by a delicate bitterness reminiscent of fresh wood, as well as nuances of ginger and grapefruit. Caramel has been deliberately omitted. This exceptional rum is best enjoyed at room temperature, ideally paired with dark chocolate.

This new cuvée comes from the Distillerie du Simon in François Bay on the Atlantic coast of Martinique, whose maritime style and impeccable distillation are highly valued by Chantal Comte. It offers the perfect balance between powerful and floral notes. On the palate, the rum is crystal clear with a diamond-like transparency. The nose reveals notes of Stephanotis and Samana blossoms, further enhanced by iodized and saline hints. Chantal Comte Fighting Spirit Green Lagoon is a rum from the Mascarene Archipelago, produced by the Labourdonnais Distillery in Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean. This rum is part of the exceptional range of white rums in the Chantal Comte Collection. Made from pure, fresh sugarcane juice, "Fighting Spirit Green Lagoon" embodies the freshness of the Indian Ocean and the floral sweetness of an exceptional rum, presented in a very contemporary and elegant bottle. Its color is beautifully transparent, with a wealth of glycerin droplets coating the glass. The nose detects notes of pure sugarcane juice, marine freshness, and vegetal sweetness—very pleasant, sharp, and powerful like a surfing wave, yet harmonious. On the palate, the strength of the alcohol is evident, underpinned by beautiful notes of brown sugar, jasmine, and honey. It unfolds with a long, tonic, fresh, and well-balanced finish. Traditionally, this rum is served neat at room temperature, like a grappa.

This Fighting Spirit Pink Rum from the Windward Islands of the Caribbean is part of a range of exceptional white rums from the Chantal Comte Collection. Distillery Bielle on Marie-Galante produces this impressive Rhum Agricole from pure, fresh sugarcane juice. This cuvée comes from batch 64/23, selected by Chantal Comte in the Saint Eloi 88 cellar, and was bottled in October 2023. Chantal Comte Fighting Spirit Pink is slightly viscous with excellent viscosity and a brilliantly transparent color. It offers a wonderfully captivating nose with a hint of refreshing salt, supported by the aroma of ripe figs – sweet and delicious. Lychee and rose definitely round out this aromatic palette. On the palate, it displays richness and sensuality, transitioning into an intriguing sweetness. The rose still exudes its charm, and the tangible, sensual components of this rum contribute to perfect enjoyment in the long, lingering finish. It can be enjoyed neat at room temperature, like a grappa, or ice-cold without dilution. It pairs perfectly with seafood, caviar, and all smoked fish, as well as with desserts like tiramisu.

A Rhum Blanc rum from the Mascarene Archipelago (Indian Ocean), made from pure, fresh sugarcane juice from the Labourdonnais Distillery in Mauritius. This cuvée comes from batch 36/21, selected by Chantal Comte in the Saint Eloi 88 cellars. Upon arrival, the rum was immediately transferred to terracotta amphorae for stabilization and maturation. Combined with micro-oxygenation, this results in a slow and optimal reduction, as the amphora's porosity allows it to breathe like no other container! "L'Arbre du Voyageur" ​​– the Traveler's Tree – actually exists in Mauritius and is called "Ravanela" in the local language. Chantal Comte L'Arbre du Voyageur Blanc is transparent and light with a beautiful viscosity. A skillful opening of fresh sugarcane and tropical fruits on the nose. On the palate, it is powerful, very mineral, and spicy with notes of pepper, chili, and mace. Citrus notes also emerge. Aging in terracotta amphorae has preserved this rum's primary notes and gently enhanced its existing mineral character. The aromatic, long finish is delicate, light, and mineral.

The new addition, "Brut de Cuve," from the "L'Arbre du Voyageur" ​​series is an exceptional white Rhum Agricole AOC, sourced from cask number 212. Chantal Comte, whose family has lived on Martinique for approximately fifty years, personally selected this cask in the cellars of the La Mauny Distillery on Martinique. It was bottled in October 2018 in a strictly limited edition of 1,200 numbered bottles. Chantal Comte dedicated certain vintages of young and particularly expressive rums to the "L'Arbre du Voyageur" ​​line, named after a tropical palm tree traditionally planted in front of West Indian houses to welcome travelers. This rum presents itself with a brilliant, crystal-clear color and beautiful viscosity. On the nose, intense aromas of freshly crushed sugarcane, candied almonds, and exotic fruits such as guava and mango unfold. On the palate, the rum reveals itself as surprisingly smooth and balanced, with an impressive aromatic depth of honeyed sweetness and powerful presence. Distillery J. Faria, located in Porto Da Cruz on the island of Madeira, produces this unique L'Arbre du Voyageur Vieux Rum from pure, fresh sugarcane juice. Chantal Comte chose a new destination this time, far from the Antilles: the island of Madeira. A subtropical island where the Roxa variety of sugarcane is cultivated on only 150 hectares. Under the influence of the warm sun, the cold sea, and the iodine-rich winds, this magnificent spirit was created. It was aged half in terracotta amphorae (made in Tuscany) and half in red ex-Cognac casks. Chantal Comte L'Arbre du Voyageur Vieux displays a transparent golden-brown color, rich in glycerin. On the nose, it is virile and complex with sweet spices, blond tobacco leaves, and notes of golden brioche. Structure, complexity, and power characterize this aged rum. With its subtle woodiness, it reveals its spicy character. The elegance and finesse of the tannins also play a role. Its long, lingering finish exudes a great complexity of spices and citrus fruits. A true gem! Dark chocolate pairs perfectly with this rum.

Another impressive rum from the Windward Islands of the Caribbean, produced by the Bellevue Distillery on Marie-Galante and personally selected by Chantal Comte in the Saint Eloi 88 cellar from batch 7/18. The rare and unpredictable cuvées "L'Or des Caraïbes" and "La Tour de l'Or" represent the most prestigious cuvées in the Chantal Comte Rum Collection. Their number is limited, and Chantal Comte traditionally selects them for their exceptional quality. Five 230-liter Seguin Moreau casks were used exclusively for maturing this outstanding Chantal Comte L'Or des Caraïbes Eleve Sous Bois Rum, bottled in October 2023. It shines with a sunny, old-gold color and presents the nose with beautiful notes of chocolate-covered candied orange peel, intense cocoa, candied exotic fruits, candied grapefruit, and soft buttery notes. The palate experiences a smooth yet powerful opening, beginning with sweetness, then building into a robust and exceptional rum. It develops a unique personality with delightful notes of ginger, cocoa, and fine wood. Powerful, smooth, and well-balanced. An absolute delight!
