Dzama
Dzama Rhum is more than just a drink – it embodies the rich culture and tradition of Madagascar, where hospitality and conviviality take centre stage. Founded in 1980 by Lucien Fohine, the name reflects its origins: ‘Old rum from Dzamandzar’, the brand’s original home on the island of Nosy-Bé in north-western Madagascar.
The secret of Dzama lies in the unique sugar cane that thrives on the island’s volcanic soils. This soil, enriched with the aromas of ylang-ylang, cloves, pepper and vanilla, gives the rum its characteristic, long-lasting flavour. Added to this is the ageing process in oak casks that previously held premium Scotch whisky, which further refines the rum.
Since 1996, Lucien’s son Franck Fohine has carried on the tradition and has made Dzama a globally renowned brand with a range of white and aged rums. Dzama Rhum is a tribute to Madagascar’s zest for life – a delight that captures the flavours and soul of the island in every drop.
