Skipper Rum is a brand steeped in tradition, renowned since 1930 for its distinctive Demerara rum from Guyana. The name ‘Skipper’ reflects the brand’s maritime heritage and its close connection to seafaring. ​

Skipper Rum is produced by Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), the only remaining rum distillery in Guyana. The brand uses a blend of seven different rums, each of which has been aged for at least three years in oak casks.

The Skipper Rum label has undergone only minor changes since the 1930s and features a captain in traditional uniform, which emphasises the brand’s nostalgic character. ​

With an alcohol content of 40% vol., Skipper Rum is a dark rum with a rich and spicy flavour profile, encompassing notes of molasses, dark chocolate and coffee. These characteristics make it appealing both for drinking neat and as an ingredient in classic cocktails. ​

Skipper Rum thus embodies the fusion of traditional rum production and maritime history, making it a highly regarded brand amongst rum enthusiasts.

Skipper Demerara Rum is distilled in Guyana at the renowned Diamant Distillery in the capital city of Georgetown. It is a blend of rums, some of which were distilled in one of the world's last remaining wooden pot stills. Unusually, Skipper is aged in Guyana, where it is distilled, benefiting from tropical aging in once-used American whiskey barrels. The black molasses from Guyanese sugarcane is distilled in a wooden still in Port Morant, producing a warm, rich rum described as "The Best in the World."
