Chateau Lacquy

Château de Lacquy continues its three-hundred-year-old tradition of excellence by managing the entire Armagnac production process on-site, from grape cultivation to winemaking, distillation, aging, and bottling. The estate currently comprises approximately 400 hectares in one contiguous area, including 25 hectares of vines dedicated exclusively to Armagnac production. This exquisite Armagnac is a blend of five different vintages and three grape varieties, with the youngest in the blend being distilled 17 years ago and giving the wine its name. All the Armagnacs in the blend were aged in oak barrels in the ancient cellars of Château de Lacquy. The Armagnac 17YO XO displays a beautiful dark brown color with subtle greenish reflections at the rim. Expressive, mild, and sweet on the nose, with aromas of candied walnut, oak, vanilla, dried figs, and chocolate, it reveals itself on the palate as distinctly complex and mature, with a powerful body. The creamy finish, with delightful notes of spice and vanilla, is a truly perfect taste experience, wonderfully balanced and perfectly mature.

A 100% Baco grape Armagnac, distilled in 1997 and aged in fine oak barrels in the venerable cellars of Château de Lacquy until its bottling in 2022. Built specifically for Armagnac aging in 1876, the cellars are traditionally constructed of stone, wood, and tiles. They replaced an older cellar already documented in the Château's plans from 1825. In 1997, the spring was very rainy, slowing the Baco grape blossom. Late August brought hot, humid weather, which favored vine growth. Then, fortunately, the hot and dry month of September ensured a perfect harvest. The result is a superb, robust Armagnac, both sweet and spicy. The 1997/2022 Armagnac displays a beautifully shimmering amber color. The nose detects sweet notes of candied fruit and apple compote with fresh spices (licorice and cinnamon). On the palate, it presents itself to the connoisseur as straightforward and powerful, with beautiful notes of spices, licorice, and sandalwood. An outstanding Armagnac with great character. The château and estate have existed for 300 years. It has been managed by the same family since 1711, making it the oldest family-owned Armagnac producer. The château itself was built in 1770 and expanded in 1910. Château de Lacquy continues its long-standing tradition of excellence by bottling only wines produced on its own vineyards, distilleries, and aging cellars. The Baco grape is a cross between Piquepoult ("folle blanche") and Noah. Baco grapes are highly resistant to disease, ideally suited for distillation, and yield interesting, complex Armagnacs that age well and retain their qualities even with age. This Château de Lacquy Bas Armagnac 2010/2023 Baco displays a golden amber color and offers the nose aromas of citrus fruits (candied orange peel), nuts, and raspberries, with a hint of warm rose. On the palate, it is spicy (black pepper), with a touch of clove and candied orange, leading into a sweet and lingering finish.

In the ancient cellars of Château de Lacquy, the Armagnacs made from different grape varieties are always aged separately. Generally, after about five to seven years of aging in new oak barrels, once it has acquired sufficient color, Armagnac is transferred to an old barrel where it continues to mature without gaining further color. This is because too many tannins would make it bitter. Château de Lacquy Bas Armagnac 2010/2023 Colombard, as the name suggests, is made from the Colombard grape, a relatively rare variety in the region, but one with great potential. This smooth, 100% Colombard Armagnac, distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2023, offers the nose delicate aromas of sandalwood, plum chutney, caramel, and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, it is elegant, light, and complex with lovely spicy notes. The finish is long and creamy.

All these conditions are met at Château de Lacquy. The Château de Lacquy Bas Armagnac 2010/2023 Folle Blanche displays an appealing amber color with beautiful copper highlights. A very floral impression emerges on the nose, accompanied by notes of rice, honeysuckle, and spring honey, followed by hints of toasted bread and licorice. On the palate, it is sweet and delicate, with notes of Java pepper, cedar, and a touch of vanilla. The finish is medium-long with a pleasant sweetness.

Armagnac Carafe des Siècles was specially created in 2014 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the owning family's arrival at Château de Lacquy. Composed of Armagnacs distilled between 1800 and 1980, this blend is characterized by exquisite finesse and a sumptuous mouthfeel. It gently releases an infinitely complex array of aromas, from floral and spicy notes to vanilla, cocoa, and candied fruit. On the palate, it reveals itself with a long, lingering finish and powerful aromas, yet simultaneously incredibly delicate and smooth. The elegant Armagnac Carafe des Siècles decanter is engraved with the family monogram and is nestled in a beautiful wooden box, carefully crafted from oak sourced from the forests of Aquitaine.
