Braud Quennesson
In November 2022, a new distillery was established in Le Marin, in the south of Martinique, on the site of the Habitation Grand Fonds: Braud & Quennesson, named after the engineers Charles-Jean Braud and Joseph Quennesson, who had already built a sugar factory there in 1866, though it sadly had to close in 1970 during the sugar crisis. Since its re-establishment, Distillerie Braud & Quennesson has been making full use of Martinique’s natural advantages, employing traditional methods combined with modern production techniques to maximise the quality of its rums. The finest sugar cane is sustainably grown on the distillery’s own plantations, monitored and then carefully selected to ensure that only the best raw materials are used. Every step, from the careful harvesting of the sugar cane to the gentle fermentation, is carried out with the utmost respect for nature. Stéphanie Dufour, the company’s highly regarded master blender, oversees the entire process to preserve the flavours and essence of the sugar cane, which are reflected in Braud & Quennesson’s impressive and authentic rums agricoles. The distillery has since received numerous awards for its high-quality rums. Its first-class products are prized by rum lovers worldwide and contribute to Martinique’s reputation as an outstanding rum-producing region. Braud & Quennesson also plays an important cultural and economic role in Martinique, as the company is a popular destination for tourists wishing to visit the distillery, learn more about the production process and take part in tastings. Maison Braud & Quennesson is an outstanding example of the rich tradition and high quality of rum production in Martinique.
