Aikan means "wedding" in the Arawak language, the language of the indigenous people of Martinique. Aikan Whisky symbolizes the union of two spirits worlds: rum and whisky in two distinct climates (France in Europe and Martinique in the Americas). This Aikan Whisky Extra Collection Batch No. 4 is a blend of distilled malts (in a pot still) and grain whisky (in a column still), initially matured for three years in casks in Scotland. It was then transferred to Martinique, where it matured for up to four years in the tropical climate, using a variety of old rum casks and casks specially designed for Aikan. This whisky presents itself in an intense amber color. It is rich and complex on the nose, with woody, spicy notes of cocoa, marzipan, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, plum, and citrus fruits. Intense, smooth, and well-structured on the palate, with pastry notes similar to those on the nose and hints of dried apricots, malt, tobacco, coconut, and walnut, all enhanced by spicy notes (cinnamon, pepper, chili), and woody like a very old rum. The finish is long, smooth, and dry.
