Aikan Whisky French Malt Collection Batch No. 1 initially matures for one year in select French oak casks in Brittany, France. This is followed by a second maturation period of two years in ex-rum casks on Martinique, which imparts a unique concentration of aromas and its beautiful amber color to this Aikan whisky. The so-called "Angel's Share" is also exceptional, at almost 10% per year on Martinique, compared to 1.5% in France! Rich and flavorful on the nose, notes of orange blossom, mace, and intense nutmeg unfold, accompanied by fruity accents of citrus and berries (blackberry, strawberry). These are followed by spicy and tart aromas, combined with quince, lemon, and tropical fruits (physalis, passion fruit, and papaya). Intense and smooth on the palate, it evokes the fruity and spicy notes of the nose. It reveals an even more flavorful profile with lovely notes of roasted nuts and cinnamon, all enveloped in maple syrup. The finish is long and delicious with notes of apricot, orange zest, red berries, vanilla, malt, and gingerbread.
