Aikan means "marriage" in Arawak, the language of the indigenous people of Martinique, and symbolizes the union of two worlds. Aikan Whisky Intense Rhum Barrels is a blended whisky composed of pot still-distilled malt whisky and column still-distilled grain whisky. This blend initially matures for several years in oak casks in Scotland before being transferred to Martinique to continue its maturation in the tropical climate. In ex-bourbon barrels and selected rum casks with a high ester content, the whisky acquires its distinctive depth and aromatic expressiveness. The result is a complex, non-chill filtered blend with a slow reduction, presenting itself in a warm, golden color. On the nose, it is fresh and enticing with notes of rum baba, flambéed banana, lime zest, vanilla, geranium, and licorice, accompanied by hints of almond milk, sea breeze, and subtle roasted notes. On the palate, it is lively and dynamic, echoing the fruity impressions from the nose and complementing them with notes of mango, brioche, bitter almond, honey, and black and green olive tapenade. The finish is long and smooth with nuances of cherry, vanilla, sweet spices, and very ripe tropical fruits. A complex, expressive gourmet whisky with an exceptional maturation profile.
