The New Yarmouth Distillery in Clarenden Parish, Jamaica, produces this excellent Albert Michler Single Cask Collection Rum Jamaica 1994/2022 Cask No. 435056. It is based on the finest Jamaican molasses, which was distilled in 1994 using a classic pot still. The distillate then rested for 16 long years in oak barrels at the distillery, in Jamaica's tropical climate. In 2010, the distillate was shipped to Scotland, where it was transferred to recycled rum casks. The rum then began its eleven-year continental maturation period, culminating in a limited release of only 292 bottles in August 2022, without the addition of any coloring. The nose is greeted by a surprising aromatic symbiosis of molasses and brandy wood, accompanied by intense tropical fruits, orange, and a hint of pineapple with an opulent sweetness. Elegant, smooth, and soft on the palate, yet simultaneously intense and rich. Notes of browned caramel, toffee, mango, papaya, kiwi, delicate wood, burnt rubber, and vanilla emerge. Highly complex. This Jamaican rum is a rare gem for the connoisseur.
