El Dorado is one of Guyana's most renowned rum houses and has been synonymous with characterful Demerara rums of great aromatic depth for decades. For their High Ester Blend PM/DHE, the distillery combines two exceptional distillates: rum from the historic Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still and an intense Diamond High Ester Rum from the rare John Dore Double Retort Pot Still. Both distillates were produced in 2014 and subsequently aged for ten years in ex-bourbon barrels in Guyana's tropical climate. The extended fermentation with local fruits and the slow distillation result in a particularly high ester content, giving the rum its distinctive, complex style. The nose reveals ripe banana, tropical fruits, delicate spice notes, and subtle oak. On the palate, toffee, dark chocolate, leather, tobacco, and spicy accents unfold, accompanied by an intense fruit sweetness and a long, warming finish. This rum is particularly exciting when consumed neat at room temperature or with a few drops of water, which further opens up the complex ester aromas.
