The story of Couderc began in 1908 at what was then La Distillerie du Centre, founded by Louis and Marie Couderc, who developed original recipes for fruit creams and liqueurs from the Auvergne region. In 2003, Jean-Jacques Vermeersch took over the distillery in the small town of Cantal and has consistently continued the tradition of these renowned French liqueurs. Yellow gentian, also known as the gold of the Auvergne, is one of the three oldest medicinal and aromatic plants used in France. The secret of wild gentian lies in its long, strong roots, which are anchored deep in the volcanic soil. Up to 1,500 roots are harvested annually. After washing, the fresh roots are cut, crushed, and then gently macerated in alcohol for three to four months. Gentiane is the undisputed concentrate and flagship of Couderc, 100% authentic and crafted with the highest level of skill, just as it has been for over a century. The result is a genuine, natural gentian liqueur that, with moderate strength, unfolds a clearly defined, controlled bitterness on the palate and is ideally suited as an aperitif, but can also be used in a variety of cocktails.
