Since 1908, the Louis Couderc distillery in Aurillac, France, has stood for authentic liqueur craftsmanship from the Auvergne region. Generations of master distillers have perfected the art of creating exceptional specialties from local ingredients. For Gentiane Citron, fresh gentian root is processed over three to four months using a complex maceration method. The aromatic peels of sun-ripened lemons are added, giving the liqueur its distinctive freshness. Even on the nose, a vibrant interplay of earthy, slightly bitter root and zesty citrus fruit unfolds. On the palate, the powerful bitterness of the gentian is initially apparent, harmoniously blending with the tart freshness of the lemon. This balance of bitter and sour is both invigorating and elegant. The finish is clean, dry, and characterized by a lingering citrus note that resonates long after the last sip. Gencitron truly shines on warm days when enjoyed chilled with a splash of mineral water, creating a refreshing, light aperitif.
