Fresh sugarcane juice from Panama forms the basis of this excellent Malteco Selección 1982 vintage rum, produced according to an ancient Guatemalan recipe by Bodegas de America SA, Panama. Distilled using a column still, the spirit matured gently and naturally for 40 years in ex-bourbon barrels made of American white oak in the mountains of Panama before bottling in 2022. This rum presents itself in a beautiful old-gold color. The nose detects good intensity, enhanced by delicate tannin notes, vanilla, caramel, sweet spices, and ripe fruit. On the palate, it is expressive, aromatic, complex, and at the same time warm, enveloping, smooth, and sweet. Tannins temper the sweetness; the caramel remains pleasantly present. Overall, it is harmonious, seductive, and smooth. Its finish is long with wonderful aromas of pipe tobacco, nutmeg, and intoxicating flowers. Malteco Selección 1982 comes in a very decorative wooden gift box. The Malteco logo features the quetzal bird with its long feathers, native to Latin America. It is considered a symbol of freedom and wealth.
