Although this premium vintage rum is produced by Bodegas de America SA in Panama, its time-honored recipe and original production method originate in Guatemala. The base for this impressive rum is the finest sugarcane juice, distilled in 1983 using a carefully monitored column still. The distillate then rested and matured for 40 long years in ex-bourbon barrels made of American white oak until its bottling in 2023. It boasts a dark amber color with golden highlights. On the nose, this Malteco Selección 1983 unfolds a magnificent array of aromas. Initially, notes of salted caramel, fresh citrus fruits, and English Christmas cake emerge, followed by hints of herbs such as thyme and rosemary. On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth, and slightly spicy with notes of smoky wood, peppery spices, and caramelized sugar, which give way to hints of tropical dried fruit. Its long finish reveals a full body with medium sweetness and lingering tannins. Comes in a beautiful wooden gift box.
