Malteco Selección 1985 is an exceptional premium rum from Panama, made from fresh sugarcane juice and distilled in a column still. It matured for over four decades in carefully selected, heavily charred ex-bourbon barrels from the USA, where it developed its deep amber color with warm golden highlights. On the nose, it presents an intense interplay of ripe pear, caramelized sugar, dark sweetness, and gently floral notes such as lavender, accompanied by delicate hints of dried fruit. On the palate, the rum is smooth, full-bodied, and complex: butterscotch, vanilla, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee blend harmoniously with hints of sage and lightly toasted wood, which unfold further with aeration. The finish is long, elegant, and characterized by a honeyed warmth and a subtle touch of spice that lingers on the tongue.
