Malteco Rum is produced in Panama according to time-honored traditions and recipes from the Presidential Republic of Guatemala in Central America, a country renowned for its elegant, smooth, and sweet rums. The latest addition to the range is a limited vintage bottling, the first of its kind. The Malteco Selección 1987/2015 immediately reveals the producer's craftsmanship: honest, aromatic, and complex. This fine distillate presents itself in a rich amber hue. Both on the nose and palate, the influence of aging in former bourbon barrels is evident. A spicy structure with pleasantly integrated wood notes unfolds, revealing fruity and pleasant sweetness on the second impression. Tobacco, chocolate, and spices culminate in a long, spicy finish. For each year of barrel aging, this rum deserves at least a minute of sipping time to fully appreciate all its facets.
