Malteco is synonymous with rum from Panama and combines traditional production methods with extended barrel aging. The Malteco Vintage Reserva 2013 is produced by Bodegas de America S.A. in Panama from sugarcane juice and distilled in a column still. The rum is then aged naturally in oak barrels for at least 13 years. The rum is aged in former bourbon barrels from the U.S. with a capacity of 220 liters, which lend the distillate additional depth and structure. In the glass, the Vintage Reserva displays an antique golden hue. On the nose, delicate floral notes blend with candied and ripe fruits, nutmeg, and subtle hints of wood and spice. On the palate, it is smooth and enveloping, with a pleasant freshness and a subtle smoky note that provides balance. The lingering, elegant finish brings out notes of pecan, lavender, and toasted wood, accompanied by spicy nuances. The Malteco Vintage Reserva 2013 is best enjoyed neat, allowing its complex interplay of aromas to fully unfold.
