For nearly a century, the Montebello distillery on Guadeloupe has been synonymous with expressive Rhum Agricole, crafted from fresh sugarcane juice and aged with meticulous care. The 2015/2022 La Rencontre cuvée is the result of a special collaboration with the Breton Distillerie des Menhirs, a family-run business and the only producer of whisky made from 100% buckwheat. After aging, this rum received a finishing touch in Breton whisky casks, creating a captivating blend of Caribbean intensity and the grainy aromas of Brittany. In the glass, it displays a straw-yellow hue with brilliant golden highlights. The nose offers an expressive bouquet with notes of fresh butter, ripe pear, candied lemon zest, and toasted buckwheat. On the palate, it is generous and slightly saline, accompanied by impressions of toasted cereals, buttery galette, and delicate brioche. The finish is soft and slightly milky, carried by delicate lemon notes. This cuvée unfolds particularly harmoniously when enjoyed neat at room temperature as an elegant digestif with exceptional character.
