The Quinta do Crasto LBV Porto 2019 once again demonstrates the precise quality for which this historic Douro estate is renowned. The vintage benefited from mild summer temperatures and a long, balanced ripening period, which gave the grapes excellent concentration and aromatic freshness. The old vines, rooted in steep schist terraces, yielded particularly expressive fruit with great depth and structure. After harvesting, the grapes are traditionally foot-trodden in the lagar (a traditional raised bed of grapes) before the wine matures for approximately five years in large oak barrels and is bottled unfiltered to fully preserve its natural density and complexity. In the glass, the LBV presents itself as deep, dark, and almost opaque. The nose reveals notes of gum arabic, wild blackberries, and fine cocoa bean. On the palate, it is powerful yet balanced, supported by firm but delicate tannins and elegant hints of fresh forest fruits. The finish is long, dense and persistent - a port wine with pronounced aging potential, masterfully combining powerful structure and vibrant aromatics.
