The oldest known records of Quinta do Crasto wine from Portugal date back to 1615. This centuries-old tradition of producing high-quality port wines continues to this day. The exclusive and rare Vintage Ports are made exclusively from the finest grapes of old vines in the Douro region and are then traditionally treaded by foot in "lagares" (wide stone troughs). This foot treading gives the port wines more structure and tannins, and also contributes to their longevity. Vintage Ports mature for two years in fine Portuguese oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered. They display a wonderfully intense dark, blackish-red color and offer complex aromas of ripe dark fruits such as currant and cherry, paired with a subtle spiciness. On the palate, they are uniquely elegant, structured, compact, and balanced, with beautiful tannins and delicate acidity. It should be noted that only exceptional vintages are considered Vintage. However, this declaration is not uniform; each port wine producer carries out its own tests and decisions, which are then officially reported to the Port Wine Institute.
