The 2019 harvest at the Portuguese winery Crasto was very successful, thanks to ample rainfall, and the mild temperatures contributed to a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. This resulted in highly expressive white wines, with excellent concentration and exceptional quality and freshness. The red wines were equally impressive. After rigorous sorting, the grapes were placed in the "lagar," a shallow stone trough, where they were crushed by traditional foot treading. To stop fermentation, alcohol was added, and the Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port 2019/2022 was then aged for two years in 9,000-liter Portuguese oak barrels. It was bottled unfiltered in 2022. The port is dark and opaque in color. The nose reveals expressive notes of wild berries. On the palate, it begins powerfully and develops into a compact, robust, and concentrated wine. Massive yet elegant tannins are perfectly integrated with retro-nasal aromas of wild berries and light notes of fresh spices. A very appealing port with a lingering finish and high aging potential.
