Ransom Spirits is located in the rolling hills of Willamette Valley near the town of Sheridan, Oregon, and was founded in 1997 by Tad Seestedt. Ransom encompasses the Ransom Distillery and the Ransom Farm. This means that most of the grain and many of the botanicals used in their small-batch spirits come directly from the Ransom Farm. This Ransom Rye Barley Wheat Whiskey is gently distilled from the finest rye, barley, and wheat in hand-hammered, direct-fired alembic copper pot stills. It was then aged in ex-French Pinot Noir oak barrels, developing its rich, complex, yet delicate grain flavors. The nose detects rich aromas of hazelnut shortbread and sweet biscuits, which provide a pleasant counterpoint to the earthy spice notes of the rye. On the palate, a smooth entry with aromas of Amoroso sherry and brown butter gradually unfolds into a full-bodied flavor. The finish is rich and lingering, with sweet and spicy notes. Awarded Best American Grain Whiskey at the 2018 World Whisky Awards.
