For the Seven Sons 18 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, select components are harmoniously blended and then aged for a full 18 years in a refill sherry butt. The unusually high malt content of 25% lends the blend depth and structure, while maturation in sherry casks brings out soft, fruity, and spicy notes. Chill-filtration and artificial coloring are omitted – its color is entirely natural. The nose reveals notes of Orkney fudge, dried fruit, syrup, nutmeg, and caramelized brittle. On the palate, a rich interplay of mocha, caramel, walnut, leather, tobacco, and a hint of wood polish unfolds, carried by a golden sweetness. The finish is medium-long and sophisticated, with brief impressions of dark fruit and a touch of tobacco. Enjoyed in a nosing glass in a quiet environment, it reveals its elegant depth particularly impressively.
