Curral das Freiras is a small village on the island of Madeira and home to the Engenho Novo da Madeira distillery. There, William Hinton Ginja is produced according to the original 17th-century recipe using local sour cherries. These cherries are macerated for at least a year in a blend of Madeira wine, rum, and alcohol. The filtered liquid is then aged for two or three years in ex-Madeira wine barrels made of French oak. The wine used is a Barbeito Sweet Madeira, made from three-year-aged Tinta Negra Mole grapes. The three-year-old Madeira rum is also aged in Madeira wine barrels. William Hinton Ginja Limited Edition liqueur has a bright ruby-red color and contains no artificial colors or preservatives. It delights the nose and palate with intense sour cherry aromas. The sweet and tart notes are complemented by subtle barrel notes and a hint of cocoa, rum, and oak. This limited special edition in numbered bottles can be enjoyed as an aperitif or digestif, or with chocolate - ideally from a small cup of dark chocolate.
