William Hinton arrived on the Portuguese island of Madeira in 1845. Madeira's geographical location, Atlantic climate, and soil conditions made it an excellent growing region for sugarcane. He established a distillery that, by 1882, was one of the largest on the island. Unfortunately, the distillery had to cease operations in 1986. His descendants revived the business in 2006. Production resumed using the century-old copper still, which had been restored in 1969 and again in 2007, with the stated goal of producing unique, limited-edition rums. This William Hinton Rum Limited Edition 6YO Aged in Aquavit Cask was initially matured for six years in French oak barrels. It was then blended with a 25-year-old rum and transferred to a former aquavit cask. This final three-year maturation period gives the rum its distinctive finish, which brings out wonderful, typical aquavit aromas. An exciting rum that surprises the nose and palate with fruity-sweet notes, underpinned by a wonderfully spicy herbal note and a touch of caraway, which transitions into a long-lasting, harmonious finish.
