Made in Luxembourg – High-quality spirits full of character, inspired by tradition and crafted with modern expertise.
Opyos Beverages
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a country full of rural regions with deep valleys as well as a number of medieval castles. In one of these valleys, in Keiwelbach in the Vallée de l'Ernz (Canton of Diekirch), located in the east of Luxembourg, the company Opyos Beverages settled in autumn 2016.
The Opyos story began with a spontaneous idea from three friends over a beer, in a bar, of course. Jim and Fränk Wagner, together with Michel Schammel, had noticed that the once-traditional distilling of Luxembourg's abundant fruit supply into high-proof spirits was becoming rarer and rarer, and this sparked a brilliant idea in the three of them! The desire to revive a fading tradition through a modern interpretation was the driving force behind the founding of Opyos Beverages. Enthusiasm along with innovative and creative ideas from the three friends, combined with valuable insights into the working methods of local experts, enabled them to found their company in order to create premium, characterful spirits that were fundamentally different from what came before. Their aim was to use local ingredients that would give the spirits a unique Luxembourgish character.
Opyos Pastis de Luxembourg
Opyos Pastis de Luxembourg is a handcrafted anise aperitif, inspired by French tradition and refined through a careful distillation process. It begins with a blend of eleven different aromatic plants, herbs and spices, carefully selected from local and distant regions around the world. For maceration, these ingredients are then filled individually into vessels containing neutral alcohol between 20% and 60% ABV. It takes several days for the desired aromas to be extracted by the alcohol. The result: a range of infusions, each contributing its own individual character to the final product. Alongside the infusions, the distillate is traditionally and gently distilled in a copper still to extract the various oils, essences and aromas. The infusions are then blended together with the distillate, and demineralized water is gradually added to bring the pastis down to a drinking strength of 45% ABV.
Opyos Vermouth Rouge de Luxembourg
For the production of Opyos Vermouth Rouge de Luxembourg, Opyos drew inspiration from the Italian tradition of Turin. The vermouth is a blend of white and red wine, flavored with various infusions of herbs, roots, blossoms and fruits. Careful planning and a precisely timed production process are especially important here. The process begins with selecting the right white and red wines, followed by a careful selection of the desired flavoring herbs, roots, blossoms and fruits. These are then macerated together with alcohol and water in separate vessels, for different lengths of time and at different alcohol strengths. Through this extraction process, the aromas, essences, essential oils and colorants contained in the ingredients can be absorbed by the alcohol-water solution. All the individual components are then blended together into a harmonious vermouth, with sugar added. The result is a ruby-red vermouth, beautifully balanced between bitter, sweet and fruity.
